When I completed Matric (Grade 12), it was a huge achievement for myself and my family. I never thought that I would copy with my school work as I would often spend long periods of time recovering from major surgery. Because of the toll my medical treatments took on me physically and mentally, I did not achieve the minimum requirements to apply to University; so studying full-time was not an option for me.

I started out in the family business, typing out letters and assignments for school learners, earning extra pocket money. I always had an interest in the IT Industry. In 2002 I studied two short courses in website development and in December 2003, I launched my website development company, Nebula Designs. The name is derived from my interest in Astronomy and Astro-photography.

The road to success was a very long journey and the breakthrough came in July 2012, when I took a leap of faith and contacted a Masterchef South Africa contestant – Ilse Nel – with an offer to build her brand website. This catapulted my company into a new sphere, with new clients from the corporate and media sector contacting me to build their sites. My portfolio of clients has since grown to include media personalities, community organizations and corporate clients.

Success did not stop there. Little did I know that life would only get better.

It was at this point that I met TV and radio personality, Liezel van der Westhuizen, who was introduced to me through a mutual friend. The project scope included overhauling her online portfolio and designing new graphics and related media.

At first, I was super excited to meet a celebrity and was also very nervous because of my rare medical condition. It took me a few weeks before I opened up and shared my personal story with Liezel. I can honestly say that I have never ever met someone so down to earth and inspiring as Liezel.

In 2016, I was nominated in the OfLocal web awards in the Best Web Developers category and beat out 26 other companies to win the top prize. I’m officially entering my company for this year’s list of candidates. Be sure to vote daily here

I wouldn’t say my career and success is defined by one client but rather a plethora of services including an impressive portfolio of websites and graphic design.

I’d like to quote a close friend of mine:

“If you love what you do you never have to work a day in your life.”
